Rebbe Nachman’s Torah is meant to be learned deeply and carefully. We come to it hoping it will give us the lens of truth through which we understand ourselves and the world around us, while leaving all expectations at the door.
Likutei Moharan moves through every area of Torah: Torah Shebichsav, Chazal, and Pnimius HaTorah. It speaks to the inner life of a person and to our relationships with Hashem, with our community, and with ourselves. A single Torah may open with seemingly unrelated ideas unfolding into clarity that they were part of one idea all along forcing us to revisit everything we ever thought we knew as if for the first time from an entirely different perspective.
My approach is to take the text seriously and follow the path of Rebbe Nachman’s thinking. That means asking questions, looking closely at the language, working through the underlying concepts, and sometimes staying with a single idea for a long time before moving on. I use examples from everyday life to help make hard concepts clearer while keeping their depth.
I don’t have may of the answers, as I’m still learning alongside everyone else. It is the questions that keep me coming back.
The shiurim go through Likutei Moharan in order. Along the way I try to show how themes develop across the sefer and what they mean for how we think, live, and serve Hashem.
Some ideas take patience, and some questions stay open for a while. Often, working on a question leads to a better question, or makes the earlier ones evaporate.
My hope is that these shiurim can act as a resource to help us learn Rebbe Nachman’s Torah or at least embark on the journey together.
Baruch Hashem, these Likutei Moharan shiurim have been downloaded around 10,000 times. Thank you to everyone learning along.
I live with my family in Brooklyn, New York, where I give a daily Daf Yomi shiur and serve as gabbai of my local shul. I have other shiurim available on Spotify.
